Privacy & listing information
Ironamber After Dark is a voluntary, Australia-wide community Christmas lights guide operated by Ironamber Consulting Engineers.
What we collect
When you register a display, we collect the display name, residential street address, suburb, state or territory, lighting hours, optional description, an optional photo and a contact email. We also retain short-lived, irreversibly hashed connection information to help limit spam.
Engineering enquiries
The enquiry form collects your name, email, contact number, suburb, service required and description, with your consent to be contacted. These details are sent securely through our email provider to Ironamber to respond to your enquiry and are not published or used to enrol you in marketing.
What becomes public
Only after a human moderator checks the submission and your authority to share the address, the display name, address, suburb, state, hours, description and map location may be visible to all visitors and passed to Google Maps when a visitor asks for directions. Your contact email is never published. Your photo is private for moderation unless you separately opt in to showing it publicly after approval. Please don't include phone numbers, children's names or other personal details in your public display description.
Why and how we use it
Information is used to check listings, display approved Christmas lights and respond to updates, correction or removal requests. It is not used to add you to Ironamber's engineering marketing mailing list. If you choose “Use my location”, location is requested only after you tap that control, used on your device for radius filtering and not saved. Map viewport requests are rounded to a broad area. Place searches are sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim to find the town, suburb or postcode you enter. Map tiles may be loaded from third-party services, and navigation opens Google Maps, whose privacy practices apply.
Favourite display voting
Votes record your selected display, the time and a salted connection hash to prevent repeat voting. We do not store your raw IP address with your vote. One internet connection can submit one vote for the 2026 season, so shared households share a vote. Totals are available to authorised administrators. Voting records are reviewed for deletion after the season.
Colouring competition entries
A parent or guardian should submit children's entries by email. The printable sheet includes fields for a name, age and parent or guardian contact number. Those details and the artwork are used to administer the competition and contact entrants, not to publish children's personal information or enrol families in marketing. Please use a first name only and do not include a residential address. Competition rules, including entry closing dates and any prizes, will be published separately. Contact us to request removal of an entry.
Updates, removal and season close
You can update display hours or withdraw a listing using your private management code. Request corrections, new photos or removal at any time by emailing info@ironambereng.com. Public listings are set to stop displaying after the 2026 Christmas season (16 January 2027). Internal submission records and photos are reviewed for deletion after the season.
Safety
Only register a property you own or have permission to list. Visitors should remain on public roads and footpaths, observe traffic rules and respect neighbours. This is an independent community initiative, not an official government or council service.
